WHO WE ARE

The inception of Ghost Logging came about when two friends shared their love and passion for the processing of lumber, starting with the standing trees in the woods, to logging the timber, milling the logs, and drying the boards. And today, Ghost Logging does all of that and more.

Andy McGough and Tom VanTassel, both working full time, took their first logging job in the summer of 2017, more so as a hobby to just enjoy the whole experience of being in the woods, cutting down the trees, and milling the lumber. After a few small jobs, they started to realize a profit and invested all of the proceeds into purchasing more equipment which they located on Andy’s family farm. In a few months, it became evident that they had a small business in the works and people were asking for more information. What would they name their business? Local folks and people in the industry were starting to notice them. There were comments such as, “Where did these people come from”, Who are these people, they just appeared out of nowhere” and “These people just showed up overnight”. Andy and Tom just seemed to have mysteriously become visible in the logging world as ghosts out of thin air, hence the business was named Ghost Logging!

Tom, a highly skilled woodsman, and having previously worked in the logging industry, quit his job first, and they hired some part time help. When that wasn’t enough, Andy quit his job and joined the team bringing with him, a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, a keen sense of business savvy and his entrepreneurial spirit. As they continued to grow, they hired two full time employees in 2020 which took them to the next level of becoming a full-service logging business.

Tom has since left the business to be closer to his family in New York. Today, Ghost Logging has six full time employees, and an additional seven part time employees.
