All dimensional lumber is sold by the board foot. To calculate the number of board feet in a board, multiply, in inches, the width x the length x the thickness and divide the total by 144. For example, a board that is 10 inches wide by 8 feet long (96 inches) by 2 inches thick would be 10 x 96 x 2 = 1920 / 144 = 13.33 board feet.
All trees of a given species do not always look the same. Trees are shaped and developed from natural forces and may display a variety of different character markings such as knots, mineral streaks, grain, and growth rings. Even boards from the same tree will differ in color and variation. None of these markings will affect the durability or structural integrity of the wood.
Rough Sawn Dimensional Lumber
We carry a huge variety of domestic hardwood as well as pine and spruce. All lumber has been properly air and kiln dried. All prices listed are for 4/4 lumber. We do carry most of these species in larger thicknesses so add $.25 for each 1/4 of an inch except for walnut and white oak. These prices fluctuate so please ask us for current pricing. We do have some uniquely spalted, burled, and mineral streaked woods that are not included on the price list. Please inquire if you are interested in any of these highly charactered woods.
Dimensional Exotic Lumber
We have a very nice selection of exotic lumber. These woods come from all around the world and provide some distinctive looks and characteristics that are not found in our domestic lumber. You’ll be amazed with some of the intense colors and markings.
Live Edge Slabs
We have a large variety of slabs and cross sections in stock, ranging from 6 to 60 inches in width. We carry both large counter and tabletop sizes, as well as small, heavily figured, charcuterie size slabs. Many have been kiln dried or in the process of being air dried to be readied for the kiln. These are sold by the piece on an individual basis.
We have walnut, cherry, poplar, white oak, red oak, hickory, maple, elm, black locust, butternut, flaming box elder, sycamore, cedar, hackberry and even purple heart slabs in stock.
Based on our experience, we prefer to cut these slabs on the thick side so that you have plenty to work with for planing and surfacing. As a rule of thumb, most slabs we have in stock will have been cut to the following specifications.
